University lecturer John takes time out from his struggles to secure a tenured position and a new house, in order to help failing student Carol. His reward results in one of the most divisive final scenes ever written for theatre.
David Mamet's take on political correctness taken to extremes.
Not available. Professional reviewers are unanimous that this is better than the 2004 production at the Garrick Theatre. No star names this time, just a well-paced, well-directed and nicely judged exploration of gender, power and exploitation. Suiting the current times, it seems even more poignant to many reviewing eyes. Instead of dating, the play feels fresher and more relevant than ever in places - suggesting that future casting could be between two people identifying with the same gender at some point. Notes too for the set alongside the acting add up to 4 stars all round, the monkey would summarize.
