Not the glamorous Cabaret we know and love. Very seedy, almost grotesque. Costumes looked sort of handmade (although not!) nothing matching, probably exactly like the clothes dancers in Berlin nightclubs in that time would have been wearing. The music was great as always, and cast talented, great singers and performers, but it was purposely loud and brash, and uncomfortable. It felt more ‘real’ than any version of Cabaret I’ve ever seen. I can’t quite decide if that was a good thing, but it was definitely an experience!
