Very busy at the moment, as just got back from visiting the amazing St James Theatre – a new complex opening in September.
Writing it up for the website now.
Two things struck me, though: how much better we have become at access requirements in venues – the St James has adapted facilities on every level, from ramps at the door to wheelchair useable backstage dressing room, bathroom and elevator facilities.
Second: That even actors and technical staff are getting a better deal. Most dressing room and technical facilities are medieval. This lot have small but beautifully formed dressing rooms and well considered stuff for the crew – scenery straight through the scenery dock door onto a lift, down to stage level, through a door and onto the stage.
This should be a great place to visit, so I’m off to write more about it now for posting later on.
